Title: Bayesian analysis and its application in metabolic system analysis

Abstract:

Bayesian analysis has long been viewed as a canonical approach in statistics. However, due to its complexity, its application in metabolic system analysis is highly restricted. In this talk, one specific type of Bayesian analysis, Gibbs sampling, is applied in metabolic flux distribution analysis. The results incorporate both measurement noise and system uncertainty information, which distinguishes the approach from common metabolic flux analysis. Moreover, dynamical metabolic system is analyzed by using Sequential Monte Carlo approach. Time series estimations of the concentrations of the intracellular metabolites are obtained by the algorithm based on the available extracellular metabolite concentrations. The two examples prove the feasibility of Bayesian analysis in metabolic system analysis as well as other similar systems.
