Registered at the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China, the Chinese Society for Neuroscience (CSFN) was founded in 1995 in Shanghai. CSFN is a nonprofit learned society of Chinese neuroscientists from universities, research institutions and hospitals all over the country. Currently it has 2049 members distributed in all the provinces except for Taiwan province and Xizang Autonomous Region.

The aim of the Society is to unite the neuroscientists throughout the country to contribute to the development of neuroscience in China and to the flourish of China’s modernization. The principal work of the Society includes the promotion of academic exchanges among Chinese neuroscientists and with foreign neuroscientists by organizing domestic and international academic conferences and meetings, the dissemination of neuroscience knowledge and advanced technology in the country, providing the advisory services and supervision of publication of Chinese Journal of Neuroscience.

The membership of CSFN has three categories: personal member, organizational member and honorary member. There are 18 committees under CSFN: Working committee for organization, working committee for academic exchange, working committee for educational affairs, working committee for young neuroscientist, working committee for popularization of science, committee for neurophysiology, committee for neuroanatomy, committee for neuropharmacology, committee for neurochemistry, committee for molecular neurobiology, committee for neuroimmunology, committee for computational neuroscience and neuroengineering, committee for  psychiatry, committee for neurology, committee for neuroendocrinology, committee for neurosurgery, committee for neurodevelopment, and committee for psychology.

CSFN organizes national conference every two years and members’ representative assembly is held every four years. The Society is affiliated to Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
